of Albert Berry Saye Professor of American Government and Constitutional Law in UGAs School of Public and International Affairs.
Talarico joined the faculty of UGAs department of political science in 1977 and was promoted to the rank of professor in 1988. She is the director of the universitys Criminal Justice Studies Program.
The excellence of Dr. Talaricos teaching, as well as her many research contributions, make her superbly qualified to serve as the first Saye Professor, says Thomas P. Lauth, dean of SPIA.
Talarico has twice received UGAs Josiah Meigs Award for Excellence in Teaching, in 1986 and 1990. She was Franklin College of Arts and Sciences General Sandy Beaver Professor from 1991 to 1994, received the Franklin College Special Sandy Beaver Teaching Award in 1986, was a Senior Teaching Fellow in 1990-91 and is a charter member of the UGA Teaching Academy.
Talarico is the author of The Social Context of Criminal Sentencing (1987), with Martha A. Myers, and Explorations in Crime and Justice (1990) with James L. Massey.
She is also the author or co-author of two dozen journal and law review articles, as well as several book chapters. She has received research grants from the Georgia Civil Justice Foundation and the National Institute of Justice and is the editor of The Justice System Journal, a publication of the National Center for State Courts.
Albert Berry Saye was a member of the political science faculty from 1940 to 1979. He earned his Ph.D. from Harvard University and the LL.B. from UGA.
