JOB DESCRIPTION: “My work mainly involves publicizing and promoting the Creative Writing Program. This includes

design and preparation of brochures, disseminating information about faculty and visiting scholars and recruitment of talented graduate students. In addition, I am involved in publicizing the creative writing portion of the UGA Cortona Study Abroad Program.”

A TYPICAL DAY: “The Creative Writing Program is dynamic so no day is typical. On one day, I may be writing a press release, on another day I may be involved in assisting students and on still another day, I am preparing for a visiting writer.”

TIME IN CURRENT POSITION:
Two years.

MOST REWARDING PART OF MY JOB: “I love literature, and I like working with people who are so knowledgeable about it and who appreciate the English language. Also, I like being part of this wonderful program, which brings together gifted faculty, visiting scholars and talented students.
“The most challenging part of my job is probably keeping up with the students. The students we have are talented, creative and intelligent; their energy is great to be around, and it makes me look forward to coming to work.”

OTHER UGA EXPERIENCE: “I was public relations director at the College of Veterinary Medicine for three years before coming to work here.”

IF I WAS NOT DOING THIS JOB, I WOULD MOST LIKE TO: “I still would be involved at the university, probably in public relations or in some closely allied area. I think if I could leave even for just a short time I would probably travel. I love history--so I would probably combine travel with studying history.”

OFF-THE-JOB INTERESTS: “I do all kinds of things. I play violin and piano so I love music. I also like hiking and bike riding--yesterday I did the Silver Comet Trail. I play tennis, and I love watching sports--I love the Braves and UGA sports.”

FAVORITE MUSIC:
“I like all music, but especially classical and country.”

A BOOK I WOULD RECOMMEND TO OTHERS:Killer Angels by Michael Shaara. It’s a book about the Battle of Gettysburg; I like historical fiction a lot.”

THE ISSUE THAT CONCERNS ME MOST ABOUT TODAY’S WORLD: “The population growth of the Earth--because so many things--war and famine--are linked to that. I think it’s a fundamental problem. We need to put the best scientific, political and social minds in to solving the problem.”
