World Food Day teleconference
The World Food Day teleconference is planned this year for Oct. 16 from noon to 3 p.m. The title for this years discussion is Hungry Farmers: A National Security Issue for All. The primary presenter will be Michael Lipton, head of the Sussex University Poverty Research Unit.
Other participants in the conversation will be George McGovern, U.N. Global Ambassador on Hunger, and Louise Fresco, assistant director-general of the Agriculture Department of the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization in Rome. The World Bank documentary Hear Our Voices: The Poor on Poverty also will be shown.
The teleconference will be offered worldwide, but there will be a local discussion group at UGA. The group will meet in the Dan Daniel Conference Room at the Edgar L. Rhodes Center for Animal and Dairy Science. To view the conference and join in the UGA discussion, register at www.uga.edu/alec/mnavarro/wfduga.htm.
