Diane Edison, associate professor of drawing and painting, has been elected to serve on the 25-person College Art Association Board of Directors. Her four-year term will expire in 2006.
Founded in 1911, the College Art Association promotes excellence in scholarship and teaching in the history and criticism of the visual arts and in creativity and technical skill in the teaching and practices of art.

Karl-Erik L. Eriksson, professor emeritus and former professor of biochemistry and Eminent Scholar of Biotechnology, has
been named a TAPPI Fellow.
TAPPI is the leading technical association for the worldwide pulp, paper and converting industry. The Fellowship is an honorary title bestowed upon less than 1 percent of TAPPI’s membership, and is given to individuals who have made extraordinary technical or service contributions to the industry and/or the association.

Franklin Professor of Art History Andrew Ladis is one of three new members appointed by U.S. President George W. Bush to the National Council on the Humanities, the advisory board of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
An expert on art of the Italian Renaissance, Ladis will serve a six-year term on the 26-member advisory board of distinguished citizens.
The NEH board meets three times a year to advise the board chairman on the programs and policies of the NEH, which has requested a budget of approximately $126 million for fiscal year 2003. Grants awarded by the independent federal agency support learning in history, literature, philosophy and other disciplines within the humanities.

Economics professor George A. Selgin is one of the world’s top 250 economists, according to a study released by the European Centre for Advanced Research in Economics.
Selgin was selected from a field of more than 55,000 economists throughout the world who have published at least one research article in an economics journal between 1994 and 1998.

The Georgia Center for Continuing Education’s media production department received two honors at the 23rd Annual Telly Awards. Producer and director David Silvian’s “Bridging Two Worlds” and “Proud To Say Georgia” were finalist award recipients.
Produced in Costa Rica over a two-year period, “Bridging Two Worlds” aired on GPTV this past year. The program documented the work of UGA’s Institute of Ecology in Costa Rica, and was edited by Michael L. Barrett and narrated by Robb Holmes. The second program, “Proud To Say Georgia,” was produced for the UGA Alumni Association and was edited by Jack Walsh.
The Telly Awards showcase and give recognition to outstanding non-network and cable TV commercials and programming. The competition began in 1980 and has grown to include more than 11,000 entries each year that set standards of excellence in television commercials and programming.

Marshall Welsh, chief cook for Tate Student Center food services, won the Southeast Regional Culinary Gold Medal from the National Association of Colleges and Universities.

Kudos recognizes special contributions of staff, faculty and administrators in teaching, research and service. News items are limited to election into office of state, regional, national and international societies; major awards and prizes; and similarly notable accomplishments.
