an interim position as associate vice president for academic affairs and associate provost. In this role, she will report directly to Arnett C. Mace Jr., interim provost and senior vice president for academic affairs. Her responsibilities will include program priorities, budgets, revisions to the guidelines for promotion and tenure, various academic initiatives and extended education.
“Professor White is one of our most distinguished faculty members and possesses a wide array of talent,” says Mace. “She is held in the highest esteem by her colleagues, students, staff and administrators throughout UGA. I admire the contributions she has made to the university and to her profession.
I am delighted that she has agreed to serve in this interim role and look forward to working with her to advance the quality of programs at UGA.”
White joined the law school faculty in 1989. She specializes in the areas of labor law, employment discrimination, employment law and labor arbitration. White was a 2000 recipient of the Josiah Meigs Award, UGA’s highest honor for teaching excellence, and also has been selected by law graduates six times as the recipient of the Faculty Book Award for Excellence in Teaching. She has served as a Senior Teaching Fellow and is a member of UGA’s Teaching Academy. She currently is a Senior Faculty Fellow for UGA’s Foundation Fellows program.
White earned an undergraduate degree from Eastern Kentucky University and graduated first in her class from the University of Kentucky College of Law, where she was editor-in-chief of the Kentucky Law Journal. She served as judicial law clerk to Chief Judge George C. Edwards of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit, then practiced law with a Cincinnati firm for seven years before beginning her teaching career at UGA.
“Although the provost’s office will be gaining the outstanding expertise of Professor White, we are losing two valued staff members,” Mace notes. Tricia Kalivoda has been promoted to associate vice president for public service and outreach, and Eric Dahl has become associate vice president for research.
