Arthur Dunning, vice president for public service and outreach, last week announced a change in leadership at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education.
Dunning said Lorilee Sandmann has stepped down as executive director of the center and will take a full-time faculty position in the adult education department of the College of Education.
Tom Gaines, deputy director of the Carl Vinson Institute of Government, will serve as interim director of the center, Dunning said. Gaines joined the institute after serving eight years as director of Georgia Rehabilitation Services.
Dunning also announced that Thom Thies, director of accounting at the Georgia Center, will move to the universitys Small Business Development Center, where he will teach courses and serve as a consultant to small business owners.
The Georgia Center is one of the universitys largest and most complex service units and also one of our most effective and productive departments in providing information and assistance to citizens, Dunning said. Dr. Sandmann and Mr. Thies have made valuable contributions to the center, and we wish them well in their new endeavors.
Tom Gaines has expertise in the areas of public service ethics, leadership and human resource development. Im confident the center staff will join him in working to continue providing outstanding service to the university and the state.
