Company-sponsored medical research
An article in The New England Journal of Medicine claims that medical schools conducting research funded by drug companies routinely ignore guidelines established to ensure unbiased, publicly available results.
Members of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors stated last year they intend to publish only research articles that are proven to have been under the complete control of the researcher, charging that medical schools violate their ethical responsibility to patients participating in clinical trials when they allow drug companies to suppress findings.

Florida voters OK governing board
Florida residents approved an amendment to the state’s constitution to re-establish a public-university governing board. There will now be a local board of trustees for each university, including one faculty and one student representative, as well as the new statewide governing board. The governing board will be responsible for the coordination and operation of the entire public-university system. This 17-member Board of Governors will have control over the powers of local boards of trustees.her colleges. Stanford, Beloit College, Mary Washington College and UNC also have dropped their early-decision programs.
