Digital history

One of the latest additions to the Digital Library of Georgia is the massive history of the university written by Thomas Walter Reed, the longtime UGA registrar. He retired in 1945 and immediately set to work on this project, which he presented to the university in 1948. It is not such as I would call anything like a finished piece of work, he explained when he handed it over, but it may do some good to file it away. Reed died in 1950 at the age of 70.
Reeds original typescript is kept in the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library where researchers have found it useful. It is more than 3,000 pages long, in 19 chapters dealing with presidents, students and the physical campus. Visitors to the Digital Library can read the text or view the original pages. |
