John Glisson, professor of avian medicine, received a Golden Egg Award from the Georgia Egg Commission for his practical solutions to producers problems.
Dr. Glisson is a real asset to Georgias egg industry, according to the Georgia Egg Commission. He places emphasis on practicality and provides his students with crucial on-the-job experience.
Richard L. Hayes, professor of counseling and human development services, received the Eminent Career Award from the Association for Specialists in Group Work. It is the organizations highest award.
Hayes was commended for his visionary leadership in the field of group work over the past 20 years. He has served as president of ASGW and is an ASGW Fellow. He chaired the first ASGW futures committee, founded the Illinois state division of ASGW, initiated the first womens interest group meeting, initiated the development of the first set of ethical standards, initiated the first national conference and served as chair or co-chair of the program committee for the first five national conferences.
Hayess research interests lie in constructivism, group process and organizational development, consultation, international issues in counseling and human development, democratic education, and school-based interventions.
Denise Mewborn, associate professor of mathematics education, has been inducted into the Illinois State University College of Educations Hall of Fame.
The college recognized the recipients for extraordinary contributions to education in leadership, service, practice, scholarship, productivity and innovation.
Mewborn, who joined the UGA faculty as an assistant professor in 1995, received her bachelors in elementary education and masters in mathematics from Illinois State University in Normal, Ill. She received her Ph.D. in mathematics education from UGA.

The Clean Water Network named Judy Meyer, Research Professor at UGAs Institute of Ecology, one of 30 national Clean Water Act heroes as part of the celebration of the acts 30th anniversary. This award honors individuals who have made powerful contributions to the protection and restoration of Americas rivers, lakes, wetlands and coastal waters.
The Clean Water Network is an alliance of more than 1,000 organizations working together to protect, enforce and strengthen the Clean Water Act. Other individuals recognized as Clean Water Act heroes include Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Pete Seeger and U.S. Rep. Sherwood Boehlert.
In 2000, Meyer helped form UGAs River Basin Science and Policy Center, which conducts both scientific and policy research, provides crucial information to decision makers on technical policy issues, and educates undergraduate and graduate students on water issues.
Professor of history Thomas Whigham has been named an ambassador of goodwill by the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation for his tireless efforts to promote goodwill and a greater understanding of the efforts of the Institute to strengthen democracy throughout the Americas.
Kudos recognizes special contributions of staff, faculty and administrators in teaching, research and service. News items are limited to election into office of state, regional, national and international societies; major awards and prizes; and similarly notable accomplishments.
