Research forum
Faculty from any discipline who conduct research on women or gender are invited to attend a discussion and workshop sponsored by the Womens Studies Program on Feb. 15, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m., in room Q of the Georgia Center for Continuing Education. The purpose is to develop a research network among UGA faculty. The meeting is intended to acquaint researchers with related work on campus, and thus to facilitate interdisciplinary research collaborations and grant proposals.
The group will identify possible areas for collaboration and plan follow-up events such as grants workshops, panels of UGA faculty who sit on granting-agency study sections, visits from governmental or private foundations regarding funding research on women, subgroups to develop grant proposals, etc. Participants will give a three-minute overview of their areas of research, ideally on an overhead transparency to be added to a directory for the participants. A spot can be reserved, by Feb. 10, at jy@uga.edu. Coffee and pastries will be served, and interested attendees may wish to continue the discussion after the forum at lunch.
Evening bus service tryout
Bus service is now being offered on weekdays until 10 p.m. on one combined route as a pilot project to determine the feasibility of providing evening service on other routes in the Athens-Clarke County bus system.

The new route will offer hourly service starting at 7 p.m. from Broad Street and campus to Riverbend Parkway, Riverbend Road, Macon Highway, East Campus Road and Carlton Street. UGA employees may ride the bus by showing a UGA ID card.
Further information, including a map of this route, is available on the Web at athenstransit.com or by calling 613-3430.
IMACS conference
The third IMACS international conference on Nonlinear Wave Equations and Wave Phenomena: Computation and Theory will be held at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education April 7-10. IMACS is the International Association for Mathematics and Computers in Simulation. Interdisciplinary aspects of nonlinear wave phenomena will be emphasized at the conference, as well as the interaction between computation, theory and applications.
For more information, contact Thiab Taha, program chair and conference coordinator (542-3477, thiab@cs.uga.edu). More details can be found on the conference Web page: www.cs.uga.edu/~thiab/waves2003.html.
Osteoporosis study
Researchers in the department of foods and nutrition are conducting a study to investigate the effects of soy isoflavones, plant hormones found in soybeans, on bone mineral density.
Postmenopausal women between the ages of 40 and 60 who have not been diagnosed with osteoporosis and are not taking estrogen or hormone-replacement therapy may qualify. Participants cannot be vegetarian and must be willing to take soy isoflavones on a daily basis for two years. Benefits include free bone mineral density measurements, vitamin and mineral supplements, dietary assessment, blood analyses, and modest compensation. Contact Tonya Dalton (583-0040, opus@fcs.uga.edu) for more information.
Bulletin board is limited to announcements from campus-based organizations whose membership includes UGA faculty and/or staff.
