Better connections: New task force studies information technology on campus
If you think computing systems and services at UGA dont function well, a new campus task force wants to hear from you.
If your office has trouble keeping skilled technology staff, or if your units computing operations duplicate those in other offices, the task force would like to know.
If, on the other hand, there are things about computing at UGA that you like, or if your unit has a best practice that could improve information technology on campus, the task force also is eager to learn about that.
Drama department goes to The Birds for its next production
The University of Georgias department of drama has gone to The Birds for the winter opening production with Aristophanes ancient Greek comedy The Birds. Director Charles B. Davis--who adapted the script from his own and other translations of the Greek--has given the production an added twist by choosing to incorporate one of his favorite mediums: puppets.
Literary society exhibit chronicles 200-year on UGA campus
Rare, beautiful and sometimes just plain weird items from 200 years of literary society tradition at UGA are exhibited in the main library lobby and at the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library to celebrate the bicentennial of the Demosthenian Literary Society. |

Provost search committee recommends five finalists
A search committee has recommended to President Michael F. Adams five finalists for the position of senior vice president for academic affairs and provost.
Adams will choose one of the candidates to succeed Karen Holbrook, who left UGA last October to become president of Ohio State University. The candidates are:
Arnett C. Mace, who currently serves as interim senior vice president for academic affairs and provost;
Linda Maxson, dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Iowa;
Risa Palm, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill;
Ellen Wartella, dean of the College of Communication at the University of Texas at Austin; and
Paul Zingg, provost and vice president for academic affairs at California Polytechnic State University.

As the nation continues trying to shake off the economic doldrums, a top official of the Federal Reserve System will come to UGA to discuss the powerful agencys role in guiding U.S. monetary policy.
Roger W. Ferguson Jr., vice chairman of the systems board of governors, will deliver a spring semester Charter Lecture Feb. 12 at 4 p.m. in the Chapel. Fergusons talk, titled One View from the Federal Reserve, is open free to the public.
