| Students (from left) Michelle Moore, Jessica Spagnuolo and Bonnie Bartles were among the members of UGAs Horticulture Club who developed an entry for this years Southeastern Flower Show in Atlanta. Working with the shows theme Laughter in the Garden, club members gave plants hairstyles (Bo Derek for a weeping mulberry, Bob Marley for a Japanese Cryptomeria, winter jasmine as Goldie Hawn, a Japanese holly as Bart Simpson and a leatherleaf sedge as Cindy Loo Who). The concept was a way to get people to look at plants in a different way, using humor, says UGA horticulturist David Berle, club adviser. And they won: two prizes, including the Chairmans Award, and $500 in scholarship money. |
