Higher ed hurt by spending cuts
State support for higher education has dropped during the tough economic times while the cost of tuition has increased dramatically. Most states have increased spending on higher education by an average of 1 percent. A report by the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education concludes the amount of state spending on higher education does not offset the average 10 percent increase in tuition most universities have enacted.
Life U.s accreditation reinstated
A federal judge has ordered the Council on Chiropractic Education to reinstate Life Universitys accreditation pending the outcome of the lawsuit the university has filed against the council.
The judge says the ruling will enable Life University to stay afloat during the litigation, but the council plans to appeal the judges ruling.
The judge agreed with the university that the accreditation process was biased, because representatives of competing chiropractic programs made up the team that made the accreditation decision.
