The GPC conducts programs in the areas of peanut promotion, research and education. Funding is derived from a $2 per ton assessment on all Georgia peanut farmers, which this year will total about $1.4 million. Georgia produces almost 40 percent of the total U.S. peanut production.
Jeremy Kilpatrick, Regents Professor of Mathematics Education, has been designated a National Associate by the National Academy of Sciences.
The National Associate designation, a program begun last year, is a lifetime title which recognizes people who have contributed pro bono service on committees of the National Academies, a group comprising the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, National Research Council and the Institute of Medicine.
Kilpatrick has served as chair of the Mathematics Learning Study, as a member of the Board on International Comparative Studies in Education, chair of the Study Group on Guidelines for Mathematics Assessment, and as a charter member of the Mathematical Sciences Education Board.

Sharan Merriam

Kilpatrick is the first UGA faculty member designated as a National Associate.
Sharan B. Merriam, a professor of adult education, has received the national Career Achievement Award from the Commission of Professors of Adult Education. The honor is bestowed only once every three years.
Merriam was a Fulbright Scholar to Malaysia in 1998. She is a three-time winner of the international Cyril O. Houle World Award for Literature in Adult Education for books published in 1982, 1997 and 1999. She also has served for five years as co-editor of Adult Education Quarterly, the major research and theory journal in adult education.
In existence since 1955, CPAE is part of the American Association for Adult and Continuing Education. CPAE provides a forum for the discussion of important issues related to the academic preparation of adult educators.

Lynne Sallot, professor of public relations, has been inducted into the Georgia chapter of the Public Relations Society of Americas Order of the Phoenix.
The Order of the Phoenix honors public relations professionals for outstanding careers and dedication to the chapter. Recipients are recognized for a longstanding reputation as a leader in the field, high standards of ethics, a history of personal commitment to serve the common good through community involvement and at least 20 years of service to the profession and PRSA.
PRSA-GA is the third-largest local chapter in the national society, consisting of nearly 800 professionals throughout the state of Georgia. Its mission is to enhance the profession, provide continuing education and offer networking opportunities for its members.
Kudos recognizes special contributions of staff, faculty and administrators in teaching, research and service. News items are limited to election into office of state, regional, national and international societies; major awards and prizes; and similarly notable accomplishments.
