Scholarly works: More than 100 undergraduate researchers make presentations at annual statewide CURO Symposium
About 125 undergraduate researchers from various disciplines will make presentations at the annual statewide Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities Symposium on April 14-15 at the Tate Student Center. Visual and performing arts exhibitions will be included in the two-day event, which is free and open to the public.
CURO, a part of UGAs Honors Program, supports undergraduate research guided by faculty. The symposium is a venue where students can address research issues, discuss their scholarly and creative works, and learn from one another. Students from UGA, Agnes Scott College, Emory University and Gainesville College will participate.
Four UGA schools among nations best in annual magazine ranking
The University of Georgia appears throughout the 2004 issue of U.S. News and World Reports Americas Best Graduate Schools ranking, with four colleges ranked in the top 50 and several specialty areas ranked in the top 10.
The College of Veterinary Medicine is ranked highest among UGAs units, tied for ninth. UGAs College of Education (27th), School of Law (31st) and Terry College of Business (42nd) are also ranked in the top 50.
Georgia Repertory Theatre stages U.S. premiere of Lunaris Our Father
The final University Theatre production of the season is also this years Georgia Repertory Theatre performance. The production, which opens April 16, is the U.S. premiere of Italian playwright Luigi Lunaris new play Our Father, translated by Stanley V. Longman of the department of drama. Del Hamilton, artistic director of Seven Stages Theatre in Atlanta, is director of the production. |

Regents will meet at UGA for first time in nearly 20 years
The University System of Georgia Board of Regents will meet on the UGA campus for the first time in almost 20 years April 15-16. The meeting will be held in the third-floor reading room of the Student Learning Center, a board of regents-funded facility which will open this fall.
The regents last met at UGA in 1984. Typically, the board holds two of its monthly meetings each year on the campus of a University System institution.

strengths of individuals rather than deficits has resulted in the development of research and outreach programs expanding the opportunities for those with disabilities to participate in their communities. It has also meant a rise to national prominence for the Institute on Human Development and Disability, which Stoneman has led for 14 years. In recognition of these accomplishments and more, Stoneman has been named University Professor.
The professorship recognizes faculty members who have had a significant impact on the university in addition to fulfilling their normal academic responsibilities and whose work has improved the quality with which the university serves its missions.
A sight for sore eyes: Invention leads to FDA-approved pharmaceutical for humans
People with a disease called chronic dry eye will have access
to a new treatment this spring.
In December, the U.S. Federal Drug Administration approved the drug Restasis for chronic dry eye in humans. The prescription drug is based on University of Georgia research conducted by veterinary ophthalmologist Renee Kaswan, a former professor at the College of Veterinary Medicine.
EITS begins preparation for migration to UGAMail
In preparation for the universitys migration from the ARCHES to the UGAMail e-mail system on May 19, Enterprise Information Technology Services has announced several events that will take place this month.
On April 14, EITS will replace the ARCHES-specific name (username@arches.uga.edu) with the preferred address for UGAMail (username@uga.edu). |
