EITS begins preparation for migration to UGAMail

In preparation for the university’s migration from the ARCHES to the UGAMail e-mail system on May 19, Enterprise Information Technology Services has announced several events that will take place this month.
On April 14, EITS will replace the ARCHES-specific name (username@arches.uga.edu) with the preferred address for UGAMail (username@uga.edu).
“This change will not affect your ability to read mail, and, in most cases, it will not affect your ability to send mail,” says Bert DeSimone, EITS director of communications. “However, you may not be able to send mail to some off-campus discussion lists.”
More information about this change is available on the UGAMail Web site (www.ugamail.uga.edu) under the “What Do I Need to Do?” section. Users should click on this link and then select “Listservs” from the list of options.
The Pine system to access e-mail also will be discontinued April 14. Pine users should visit the UGAMail Web site for information and alternatives.
In addition to these changes, EITS will hold UGAMail orientation sessions on the following dates: April 17, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Rooms K/L of the Georgia Center; April 22, 10 a.m. to noon, Reception Hall of the Tate Student Center; and May 7, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Georgia Hall of the Tate Student Center.
Open to all UGA students, staff and faculty, the sessions do not require pre-registration; drop in any time during one of the sessions. Each orientation session includes a brief presentation, a question-and-answer period and the opportunity to try out the new system.
Migration to UGAMail begins May 19 and will continue for several days. After a user’s account has been switched, he or she will receive an e-mail with instructions about what to do next.
Users with questions about UGAMail should contact the help desk by e-mail (helpdesk@uga.edu) or phone (542-3106).
