Co-authored by UGA alumnus Sonny Seiler and Georgia Magazine editor Kent Hannon, Damn Good Dogs! is an exhaustive history of the universitys line of bulldog mascots.
The book opens with a prime example of the mascots popularity: an overflow crowd of 1,000 people--many of them young couples with children in strollers--standing in line to get their picture taken with Uga. The saga then retreats to 1956 and proceeds chronologically, beginning with Uga I and continuing through the current denizen of the spiked collar, Uga VI.
Illustrated with hundreds of news and feature photos, many of them from the Seilers private collection, Damn Good Dogs! is an upclose look at UGAs six bulldog mascots--who have come to symbolize the tenacious, never-say-die personality of Georgia athletic teams.
Its a remarkable saga, says Hannon, and no one could tell the real inside story but Sonny. He is also the keeper of an endless number of Uga anecdotes, the best of which weve incorporated in the book. For Georgia fans who have wondered what the Seilers personal Uga scrapbook looks like, Damn Good Dogs! is it. |
