Online student elections
Several colleges and universities report that online voting systems have increased voter turnout in student elections.
While participation is still not where many student government representatives would like it to be, the use of online voting systems has greatly increased student participation and interest in student affairs at Carnegie Mellon, West Virginia and Emory universities.
Programs boycotted in India
Fourteen universities in the Indian state of West Bengal have agreed to boycott all educational programs sponsored or financed by the British or American governments in protest against the war in Iraq. An electronics conference at the University of North Bengal, which was jointly sponsored by the U.S. National Science Foundation and the Indian Science Foundation, has already been cancelled. Faculty at Jadavpur University in Calcutta have also signed a letter refusing to participate in any American government-funded project. The letter asserts they will also turn down exchange programs and U.S.-financed scholarships.
