SARS affects universities in China
Severe acute respiratory syndrome, or SARS, is affecting academic programs and outside activities at universities and study-abroad programs in China. The University of California system and the California State University system have suspended their study-abroad programs at Peking University. Students already enrolled have been instructed to leave the area as soon as possible. Georgia Tech and Emory and Georgia State universities also cancelled planned summer trips to China.
Chinese universities that have remained open are urging students to wear surgical masks and wash their hands more regularly.
Advertising on college Web sites
Some university Web sites are no longer free from advertisements. The University of Oklahoma, Ball State University and the University of South Carolina at Spartanburg are just a few that have begun to incorporate advertisements and commercial logos onto student e-mail pages, academic services pages or athletic association pages.
Most institutions that accept advertising have restricted it to a logo or banner advertisement, refusing pop-up ads.
