Leaders of the pack: Couples $1 million gift will be used to help strengthen programs that develop leadership skills in students
An Atlanta couple has given the university $1 million to help strengthen programs that develop leadership skills in UGA students.
The gift from Andrew M. (Jack) Head and Jane S. Head went into an endowment that supports UGAs Student Leadership Center. The center conducts programs designed to help students be more successful in school and after graduation.

named associate vice president for academic affairs and associate provost by Arnett C. Mace, senior vice president for academic affairs and provost. The appointment is effective July 21, pending approval by the University System of Georgia Board of Regents.
Yegidiss career in academe spans more than 25 years. She has served as the dean of UGAs social work school since 1995. Prior to her appointment at UGA, she was professor and director of the School of Social Work at the University of South Florida. |

approaches for respiratory virus infections joined the UGA faculty as a Georgia Research Alliance Eminent Scholar on May 1.
Ralph A. Tripp, section chief of the Viral Immunology Section in the Respiratory and Enteric Viruses Branch of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention since 1997, joined the College of Veterinary Medicines department of medical microbiology and parasitology as GRA Eminent Scholar in Animal Health Vaccine Development.
Law dean is stepping down from post at end of fiscal year
David E. Shipley, who has been dean of the School of Law for five years, will step down June 30 and take a position on the law school faculty.
Provost Arnett Mace has named Rebecca H. White, a law professor who has been serving as associate provost, as interim law dean beginning July 1.
Becoming a Nation: Exhibition offers visual history of United States
Becoming a Nation: Americana from the Diplomatic Reception Rooms, U.S. Department of State, opens at the Georgia Museum of Art July 5 and will run through Aug. 31.
The exhibition includes more than 160 objects from one of the nations least-known cultural treasures, the period settings of the diplomatic reception rooms at the State Department. |
