Adam Davis, assistant professor of poultry science and UGA Outstanding Adviser/Mentor in a tenured/tenure-track position, has been awarded a National Academic Advising Association Certificate of Merit in the faculty academic advising category.

Men’s basketball coach Dennis Felton was an assistant coach to the 2003 U.S. team that participated in the Junior World Championships this past summer in Malaysia.

Leigh Holland, senior academic adviser in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences and recipient of the award for UGA Outstanding Adviser/Mentor in a non-tenure-track position, has been named the 2003 National Academic Advising Association Outstanding Adviser in the primary role category.

Gordhan L. Patel, vice president for research and associate provost, has been elected to the board of directors of Oak Ridge Associated Universities.
Established in 1946, ORAU is a consortium of 88 doctoral-granting colleges and universities that carries out active programs with and for its members. These include efforts to increase member university involvement in corporate work initiatives, programs that facilitate interactions between senior industrial scientists and faculty and students at member institutions, and awards to junior faculty members at member universities. ORAU also manages and operates the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education for the U.S. Department of Energy.
ORISE focuses on scientific initiatives to research health risks from occupational hazards, assess environmental cleanup, respond to radiation medical emergencies, support national security and emergency preparedness and educate the next generation of scientists.

Art Rosenbaum, Wheatley Professor in the Fine Arts, received one of 11 Governor’s Awards in the Humanities.
Each year Georgia’s governor presents medallions to individuals and organizations who build community, character and citizenship in the state through their efforts in humanities education. Recipients of the Governor’s Humanities Medals are

nominated by the public, reviewed by a committee of the Georgia Humanities Council Board and selected ultimately by the governor.

Steve Wrigley, senior vice president for external affairs, has been named chair of the Georgia Humanities Council, a position he will hold for 18 months.
A former chief of staff for Gov. Zell Miller, Wrigley is a long-time board member of the GHC. Prior to joining UGA, Wrigley served 13 years in senior management in Georgia state government.
The Georgia Humanities Council serves the state of Georgia through its projects and grant programs. An independent nonprofit organization, the council receives funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the state of Georgia, foundations, corporations, and individuals.
