Mentor program training
The Athens-Clarke County Mentor program is supported at UGA by partnerships with the offices of Public Service and Outreach and External Affairs. Upcoming training dates to become a mentor are Oct. 14 and Nov. 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the new Athens Area Chamber of Commerce building at 246 W. Hancock Ave. For information about mentoring, or to register for training, call Trudy Bradley at 353-2288.

Self-defense classes
Safe Campuses Now plans two-part classes in self-defense for women for students, faculty and staff on Oct. 28 and Nov. 4. Attendees receive awareness information, prevention tips, and hands-on self-defense techniques to reduce their risks of becoming victims of crime. Classes are free and are provided with the assistance of the UGA Police Department.
Safe Campuses Now is an Athens-based non-profit organization in which students educate and inform their peers about on- and off-campus crime and proactive prevention measures.
For information or to sign up for classes, call 354-1115.

Grant-writing workshop
“Grantsmanship and the Grant-Writing Process” will be the subject of a full-day workshop to be hosted by the Nonprofit Management and Community Service Program of the Terry College of Business on Oct. 10. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and class runs from 8:25 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Reception Hall at the Tate Student Center.
The course will be taught by Illene Roggensack, owner of a consulting firm for non-profit organizations and currently an M.B.A. student at UGA.
Areas to be discussed include trends in charitable giving and government support, finding funders, developing relationships with funders, and the actual how-to of writing the grant application.
Also to be discussed are the role of grants in an overall fundraising strategy and management of grant income.
There is no cost for the workshop, but class size is limited so early registration is encouraged.
For further information or to register for the grant-writing workshop, contact the Nonprofit Management and Community Service Program at 542-3750 or nonprofit@terry.uga.edu.

Bulletin board is limited to announcements from campus-based organizations whose membership includes UGA faculty and/or staff.
