Former administrative information systems director is named interim CIO

Dennis P. Calbos, former director of administrative information systems at the university, has been named interim chief
Dennis Calbos
Dennis Calbos
information officer and associate provost at UGA, subject to approval of the board of regents.
Calbos, whose appointment was effective Sept. 2, will oversee UGA’s Enterprise Information Technology Services, the unit responsible for operation and support of all the university’s computing and data communications functions.
He succeeds Kirk Bertram, who has left UGA for a position in private industry.
Calbos has more than 30 years’ experience in information technology and has been involved in much of the planning, design, development and management of UGA’s central information systems.
He retired from his administrative duties last year and teaches in the management information systems department in the Terry College of Business.
“I am pleased that Dr. Calbos has agreed to serve in this key position on an interim basis,” says Arnett Mace, senior vice president for academic affairs. “He has a vast array of experience, expertise and understanding of the University of Georgia.”
Mace says a national search will be conducted to fill the position permanently.
EITS is responsible for UGA’s extensive network of computing resources that support research, administrative and student services. In addition to many specialized research laboratories and microcomputer cluster facilities, EITS maintains the university’s e-mail systems and World Wide Web connections and handles site license arrangements for purchase and distribution of computer software.
