 |
| $60.70 |
Written by Pete Bettinger, UGA associate professor of landscape planning and harvest scheduling, and Michael Wing, assistant professor of forest engineering at Oregon State University, Geographic Information Systems: Applications in Forestry and Natural Resources Management is based largely on the authors experiences.
In addition to introducing students to the common applications of geographic information systems, the book also covers a number of advanced topics, including trends in GIS technology and the challenges and opportunities facing modern natural resource managers and organizations.
In addition to background information about the history of GIS, map design, and database acquisition and development, the book covers GIS operations such as clipping, buffering and overlay analysis.
Geographic Information Systems also provides readers with a common perspective and language so they can understand typical applications of GIS in various natural resource management field offices. Intended as an introductory text for undergraduate courses in GIS, it is also a useful tool for foresters, biologists and other natural resource professionals.
