University sets spring 2004 policies for transfer admissions

The university announced earlier this month those policies that will govern admissions decisions on transfer applicants for spring 2004.
“Our goal for spring admissions is to try to accommodate those transfer students we could not admit in the fall because we had exceeded our enrollment limit with an unexpectedly high yield of incoming freshman students,” says Nancy McDuff, associate vice president for admissions and enrollment management. “We expect to admit a maximum transfer class of 700 this spring to fill spots that will open up at the end of fall semester due to graduation and normal attrition.”
The following guidelines, based on recommendations from the Faculty Admissions Committee, were approved by President Michael F. Adams after discussion with senior administrators and endorsement by the university cabinet:
• First priority for admission will go to eligible transfer applicants for fall 2003 who were denied admission due to lack of available space. Those students must update their applications by Oct. 1.
• Second priority will go to transfer applicants who have completed 60 or more transferable credit hours by the Oct. 1 deadline with a minimum transfer grade point average of 2.5.
• Transfer applicants who have completed 30-59 transferable credit hours with a minimum transfer GPA of 3.2 will be considered for admission on a space-available basis once the first two groups have been accommodated. The order of admission will be determined by grade point average.
Transfer students with an intended major within the Terry College of Business or the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication who have 60 or more earned credit hours will be notified of the difficulty of admission to these programs due to high demand.
First-year applicants will not be considered for admission for spring 2004.
Transfer admission criteria for future terms have not yet been determined, McDuff says, but information will be posted on the admissions Web site (www.admissions.uga.edu) as soon as it is available.
