Molly Hurley Moran is an associate professor in the English component of UGAs Division of Academic Enhancement. Finding Susan details the life of her sister, Susan Hurley Harrison, a talented but troubled woman whose lack of self-confidence led her to become dependent on alcohol and trapped in a violent marriage. Susan disappeared Aug. 5, 1994, just after visiting her estranged husband. Her body was discovered two years later, and her death was ruled a homicide--but no one has ever been charged with the murder.
In piecing together a mosaic of Susans final years, Moran has grown to believe her sister was a victim of domestic violence.
Since Susans disappearance, Moran--who has published a range of scholarly books and articles--has also become an advocate for educating the public about missing people, battered-woman syndrome and female alcoholism.
In conjunction with National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Moran will take part in a talk, reading and book signing Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. in the Chapel.
