On Oct. 17 and 18, the university will hold its fourth annual Parents and Families Weekend for all parents and families of UGA undergraduate students.
The weekend offers family members an opportunity to visit on their students turf and to experience campus together, says Marjie Graham, director of the Parents and Families Association. The parents of new students, especially, have a whole new set of questions now that their sons and daughters are living away from home.
The agenda for the weekend includes a question-and-answer session with President Michael F. Adams, tours of campus sites and information sessions. Students and their families can visit the new Student Learning Center, East Campus Village and the Georgia Museum of Art, as well as other locations. Information sessions will highlight such programs as study abroad and career services. A panel of students will discuss their experiences at the university with attendees.
Graham says that directors, department heads and deans are invited to talk with families at Saturdays Big Dawg Picnic.
The idea is for the family members to be able to meet some of the people who are interacting with their students on a daily basis, she says.
The Parents and Families Association seeks to enhance communication between parents and families of students; enrich the college experience for parents, families and students; involve parents and families in campus and regional activities to promote UGA; and provide financial support to UGA through the Parents and Families Fund. |
