World AIDS Day
Dec. 1 is World AIDS Day. The 2003 campaign slogan is “Do you have time?” and the University Health Center is asking UGA staff, students and faculty to learn more about HIV and AIDS, how it’s affecting Georgians and how they can reduce their risk of contracting the virus. Five people worldwide die of AIDS every minute of every day. Stop by the information table at the Tate Student Center between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. for a red ribbon, information or safer-sex supplies.

UGACard replacement
The deadline to update University of Georgia identification cards (UGACards) is Dec. 19. The UGACard Office is updating ID cards for employees and students issued prior to June 9, 2003, to replace the Social Security number with a 16-digit ID number. Cost is $3 to replace an old card or $15 without an old card. Cards may be updated at the Student Activities business office, 320 Tate Student Center. Office hours are Monday, Thursday and Friday, 9:30 a.m. until 4 p.m., and Tuesday and Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. The office also will be open Saturday, Dec. 13,10 a.m. until 1 p.m. For more information, call Jerry Anthony at 542-8514.

Pay phone service
As of Dec. 31, BellSouth will no longer offer pay phone service in its customer-service area. All 95 pay phones currently on campus will be removed beginning in January. UGA units with questions about the options for the future can call Vending Services at 542-7167.

Learning Center hours
Student Learning Center hours this week are: Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 1-2, 7:30 a.m.-2 a.m.; Wednesday, Dec. 3, open 7:30 a.m. through Friday, Dec. 5, closing 9 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 6, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; Sunday, Dec. 7, open 10 a.m. through Tuesday, Dec. 16, closing 10:30 p.m.
The Student Learning Center schedule is available on the Web at www.slc.uga.edu/hours.html.

Basketball shuttle
Construction around Stegeman Coliseum has significantly reduced the number of parking spaces available to fans attending basketball games. The Athletic Association will therefore provide a free shuttle from the Ramsey Student Center parking deck before and after each home men’s basketball game in the regular season.
The shuttle will begin one and one-half hours prior to each game and continue until one hour after the game. Fans can pick up the shuttle at the bus stop at the Ramsey Student Center parking deck; they will be dropped off at the Coliseum on Carlton Street. After the game, Carlton Street will be the pick-up point and fans will be dropped off at the parking deck bus stop. Campus Transit personnel will be on hand to assist fans with the shuttle.

Intellectual property policy
The Office of the Vice President for Research and the Human Resources Division have developed a procedure for ensuring compliance with and adherence to the intellectual property policy. As a condition of employment, all persons, regardless of when last employed (if there has been a break in service), must complete and sign a University of Georgia Intellectual Property Agreement form. The original signed form will be sent to Human Resources with other new-employee paperwork, where it will be retained in the employee personnel file.
The intellectual property policy is online at www.ovpr.uga.edu/forms/. For more information about the policy, call the Technology Commercialization Office, 542-5944.

Children’s nature activities
The State Botanical Garden is now accepting reservations for two activities planned for children in January and February. For more information, call 542-6156.
“Drama in the Garden” is for ages 6-11, on Tuesdays, 3:30-5:30 p.m., from Jan. 13 to Feb. 24. Mary Wooten, director of the Wooten Performance Company, will lead the children in environmental education activities combined with mime, dance and puppets. Cost is $95 ($85 for members).
The Sweet Pea Club is for children ages 3-5 and their parent helpers. It meets Tuesdays, Jan. 13 and 20 and Feb. 3 and 10, 9-10:30 a.m. Cost is $23 ($20 members) for parent and child at all four sessions.
