Students enrolled in the portfolio development class in the College of Environment and Design acquired both the tools and--evidently--the confidence to get a dream job. As a result, offices all over the country are talking about UGA graduates in landscape architecture and historic preservation. Each semester’s class builds on the previous year’s student work.

Musicians’ Marketplace.

Local musicians’ CDs will be available for holiday shoppers. Proceeds will be shared between WUGA-FM and the musicians. Participating musicians include Mike Dekle, Bill Mallonee, Wilma, David Barbe, Jeff Andrews of the Fountains, Rick Fowler, Maggie Hunter and Julie Powell. Signed REM and Drive-by Truckers merchandise will be auctioned. Live performances and tours of the WUGA-FM studios will be offered.

The holiday ornaments in the café were created by local children especially for the museum. The museum shop will offer a 20 percent discount to members of the Friends. The open house is free and open to the public and includes art activities and refreshments.

Inaugural Address: Education Law Consortium.
“Classrooms in Conflict: The Law of Teaching.” Michael A. Olivas, University of Houston. 4 p.m. 101 Meigs Hall. Sponsored by Institute of Higher Education. 542-0579.
Olivas is the William B. Bates Distinguished Professor of Law and director of the Institute for Higher Education Law and Governance at the University of Houston Law Center. His address will launch the Education Law Consortium.
The consortium, a non-profit, non-partisan research group, will focus on the improvement of education through conducting research on and providing analysis of various law and policy issues. It will issue newsletters and research reports, maintain a Web site and database on education law and policy, and host forums connecting scholars and policy makers.
The leading national scholar on legal issues in higher education, Olivas will discuss legal issues that arise between faculty and students in higher education classrooms, drawing on illustrative legal cases.
