Restructuring of pay and classification system begins
Human Resources staff will begin working with campus departments this month to implement new titles for staff positions. The move is the next step in the universitys ongoing effort to update and restructure its decades-old pay and classification system.
By June 30, some 700 job titles for non-faculty employees will be sorted into one of 29 job families that are defined by the work the employees actually perform.

has been named the first Albert Berry Saye Professor of History. Roberts was selected by a faculty committee for the honor, which was approved by history department head Edward Larson and Wyatt Anderson, dean of the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences.
The Saye Professorship was named for one of UGAs most distinguished and honored faculty members, who began his long career here in 1939 when he was appointed an instructor in history. Saye was later named an assistant professor of political science and became Alumni Foundation Distinguished Professor and then Richard B. Russell Professor of Political Science.

UGA buys Thornton Brothers building
Thornton Brothers Paper Co., which has built a new facility on Olympic Place in Athens, last month sold to the UGA Real Estate Foundation the property it has vacated adjacent to North Campus. The university will redevelop the area, which is believed to be the original site of the university and Athens.
Jo Ann Chitty, president of the Real Estate Foundation, emphasized that the property will remain on the local tax digest, as do most parcels owned by the foundation.
