Teaching Fellows deadline
The deadline for electronic submission of the applications and nominations for the 2004-05 Lilly Teaching Fellows program is Feb. 27. Detailed information about the program as well as application and nomination forms are available on the Web (www.isd.uga.edu/faculty/lilly.html) or from the Office of Instructional Support and Development (542-1355).

The Lilly Teaching Fellows program provides up to 10 junior tenure-track faculty members with an opportunity to enhance their teaching skills by sharing teaching strategies, by interacting with senior faculty mentors who are outstanding teachers, and by designing and implementing instructional projects to strengthen each Fellow’s courses and teaching methods.

Candidates must be in their first, second or third year at the university and must have demonstrated a strong commitment to teaching and to the improvement of teaching at UGA. Approximately 20 applicants will be selected for personal interviews; up to 10 Fellows will be selected from that group.

Research travel grants
The Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies has received a Tinker Foundation field research grant to provide travel funds for graduate students carrying out pre-thesis or pre-dissertation research in Spanish and Portuguese-speaking Latin America and the Caribbean during summer 2004. The Graduate School provides additional funds for this program.

This is the third year in a row CLACS has received a Tinker field research grant. In 2003, 16 students from eight UGA departments received travel awards to carry out summer research in 12 Latin American or Caribbean countries. For information about the travel award competition for this year, see the CLACS Web site, www.clacs.uga.edu, or call 583-0619.

Children’s chorus members
The Georgia Children’s Chorus, in residence at the university, is looking for new members--boys and girls, ages 8-16.

Musical instruction and standards are high; children also develop self-discipline, a sense of responsibility, and a strong self-image.

For more information, call 542-8711 or e-mail gcc@uga.edu.

To our off-campus readers
Continuing budget constraints necessitate the curtailing of free distribution of Columns to off-campus locations through U.S. mail, effective with our next issue. Columns is available on the Web (www.uga.edu/columns), and those desiring to continue receiving Columns through the mail may subscribe for $15 per year (second-class delivery) or $30 per year (first-class delivery). This policy change does not affect UGA retirees. The Columns staff sincerely regrets the need for the change.

Bulletin board is limited to announcements from campus-based organizations whose membership includes UGA faculty and/or staff.
