Advising award nominations

Nominations are now being accepted from Franklin College undergraduates for this year’s outstanding academic adviser awards. One faculty adviser and one professional-staff adviser will be selected by the committee, which consists of lower- and upper-division students. Any Arts and Sciences adviser may be nominated.

Nomination forms are available in 106 New College and online at www.franklin.uga.edu/fac_staff/advising/awardhtm. Handwritten nominations are also acceptable.

The deadline for submitting nominations is Feb. 13. They should be sent to Outstanding Academic Adviser Award, 212 New College.

Cholesterol screening
February is “Love Your Heart” month and the University Health Center is offering free total cholesterol screenings for faculty and staff on Feb. 13, 9–11 a.m. and 2–4 p.m., at the health center. Results will be available while you wait.

In addition, cholesterol screening will be offered every Monday and Thursday in February, 9–11 a.m. and 2–4 p.m. These screenings are free for students and $5 for faculty and staff.

Faculty research in Germany
Applications are due by Feb. 19 for summer 2004 UGA faculty research grants for travel to Erlangen, Germany. The grant of up to $7,000 provides funds for travel, food and lodging, and other research-related expenses.

Applications should include:
• a detailed statement of the research project and specific plans for carrying it out in Erlangen. The statement should place the project in the context of the applicant’s other research.
• budget, including travel and lodging.
• complete curriculum vitae.
• a brief recommendation from the department or unit head.

The application should be sent to Marjanne E. Goozé, German Exchange Committee, Germanic and Slavic languages, 201 Joe Brown Hall.

The German Exchange Committee will notify applicants of decisions by March 1.

Grant applications
The UGA Parents and Families Association is now accepting 2004 grant applications. Applications can be downloaded from the Parents and Families Web site at www.alumni.uga.edu/parents&families/. The deadline is Feb. 10, 5 p.m.
