Harvard lifts program restrictions
Harvard Business School has decided to open admissions for a summer program to applicants regardless of race after receiving complaints from several organizations that oppose affirmative action. The new policy will admit white and Asian applicants whose families do not have significant business experience or education, who are the first in their families to go to college or who are attending a college whose graduates do not typically go on to graduate study at top-tier institutions.

No athletics dept. at Jacksonville U.
The acting president of Jacksonville University in Florida has decided to formally disband the athletics department and reassign coaches and administrators to another department. The vice president of student life will assume the responsibilities, if not the title, of athletics director, and Hugh Durham, the current athletics director, will give up those duties but continue to coach men’s basketball. Durham coached at Florida State and UGA before going to Jacksonville in 1997. The move is intended to keep athletes from being isolated from the rest of the student body.
