Award nominations sought

Individuals and organizations from throughout the state are encouraged to submit nominations for the 2004 Georgia Excellence in Public Service Awards, coordinated by the Carl Vinson Institute of Government at UGA. This is the second year for the awards program, a public-private partnership between the Vinson Institute and Georgia Trend magazine in cooperation with the Georgia Municipal Association, the Association County Commissioners of Georgia and Georgia Public Broadcasting.

Awards are presented to state, regional, county and city officials and professionals. Complete nomination applications are due at the Vinson Institute no later than April 15, with the winner announced at a public ceremony in early September in Atlanta. Power outages planned

Electrical power to several North Campus buildings will be off from approximately 5 p.m. March 8 to 6 a.m. on March 9 and from 5 p.m. March 11 to 6 a.m. on March 12 while Physical Plant upgrades the North Campus electrical distribution system.

The buildings affected March 8-9 will be Brooks Hall (and Brooks Hall chiller), Joe Brown Hall, Caldwell Hall, Candler Hall, the Chapel, the Chi Phi house, Demosthenian Hall, Denmark Hall, Gilbert Hall, Holmes-Hunter Academic Building, the Kappa Alpha house, the law school complex, Meigs Hall, Moore College, Morris Hall, New College, Old College, the Old Garden Club, Park Hall (chiller only), the Pi Kappa Alpha house and Sanford Hall.

On March 11-12, the affected buildings are the administration building, Baldwin Hall, Bishop House, central duplicating, Human Resources, LeConte Hall, the main library and annex, Lustrat House, the North Campus parking deck, Park Hall, Peabody Hall, Phi Kappa Hall, Rusk Hall, the Tanner Building, Terrell Hall, visual arts and Waddel Hall.

‘Human Race’ planned
The 26th annual Human Race sponsored by the Catholic Center will take place March 20. The 5-K walk or run will begin at 9 a.m. at the Catholic Center (1344 S. Lumpkin St., across from the UGA track). All proceeds go to Camp St. Francis, Open Hearts Center and St. Mary’s Hospice House.
Entry fees are $15 per participant and $45 per family before March 13, $18 per participant after March 13. Fees include T-shirt, food and beverages after the race and the opportunity to win door prizes.

Breakfast reservations
The Alumni Association’s annual “Workin’ like a Dawg” alumni employees breakfast will be held
April 7 from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. in the banquet area at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education. All alumni employees throughout the state are invited. A continental breakfast will be served and years-of-service pins will be issued. Invitations and RSVP forms are being sent to all alumni employees.

To reserve a place, return the RSVP to the Alumni Association (Wray-Nicholson House, 298 Hull St.) by April 2, or call 542-2251.
