Utah considers guns on campus
A bill sent to the governor of Utah could overturn a ban on guns on the University
of Utah campus. The Utah legislature overwhelmingly passed the bill, which would prohibit local authorities from restricting gun ownership and usage within the state without first obtaining approval from the state legislature. The university’s no-gun policy has been in effect for about 30 years. It is not yet clear whether the governor will sign the bill into law. UGA similarly prohibits guns on campus.

Federal judge: Colleges can deny admission to illegal immigrants
A federal judge tossed out part of a lawsuit aimed at Virginia’s public colleges, saying that as long as the universities apply federal standards to determine immigrants’ legal status, they can deny admission to those living in the country illegally. A 1982 decision by the U.S. Supreme Court stated that elementary and secondary schools could not consider immigration status when determining whether or not to enroll a student, but this ruling has never been applied to colleges.
