Student affairs VP will step down from his post on July 1
Richard Mullendore
Richard H. Mullendore, vice president for student affairs at UGA since 1999, announced last week he will leave his position effective July 1 to return to the classroom and to work in UGA’s fund-raising efforts.

“It has been a tremendous pleasure to serve the students at UGA for the past five years, and I am extremely proud of what the Division of Student Affairs has accomplished during a time of increasing student enrollment and diminishing state support,” Mullendore says. “My staff has truly lived up to the student affairs motto, ‘Where Students Are First,’ by focusing efforts and resources on programs that impact the learning environment and quality of student service.”

“I appreciate the many contributions Dr. Mullendore has made during his tenure as vice president for student affairs,” says President Michael F. Adams. “I wish him well in his return to the classroom and am happy that he will also spend time in development where he has been especially effective.”

Mullendore will join the faculty of the College of Education as a tenured professor in the department of counseling and human development and will assume development responsibilities in the Division of External Affairs.

“I am very grateful for the initiation of a number of very good student programs Dr. Mullendore and his staff have established during his tenure at UGA,” says Arnett C. Mace Jr., senior vice president for academic affairs and provost. “I fully respect his desire to assume a greater role in teaching and development of private support for the University of Georgia.”

Among the programs begun under Mullendore’s direction are “Dawgs After Dark,” providing on-campus student activities programming as an alternative to off-campus nightlife, and “A Big Dawg Welcome” for new students. The Student Leadership Center was formed and the position of dean of students re-established.

Among his other accomplishments are improved quality and accountability in Greek life; the lighting of the intramural fields; implementation of electronic financial aid systems; improved service to minority students, students with disabilities and international students; and collaboration with academic affairs to offer programs in the residence halls.

“We can take pride that we provided consistent quality service to our students, whom we have always tried to keep at the forefront of our efforts,” Mullendore says.
