Move-in volunteers sought

“Hunker Down with Housing,” an early move-in initiative of University Housing, will be held Aug. 13–15. Since all first-year students will be living on campus this year, the program has expanded to three days. More than 200 student and University Housing staff volunteers will greet new students and their families over the course of the weekend process. Faculty and staff are also encouraged to volunteer.

“Hunker Down with Housing” is supported in part by the UGA Parents and Families Association. The campus police department, Parking Services, Food Services, the Greek Life Office and Auxiliary Services also participate.

Faculty and staff may volunteer for time allotments Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Volunteers primarily work outside, greeting new students and their families, answering questions, giving directions to area parking lots and venues surrounding campus, and assisting in other move-in activities.

A brief training session for all volunteers will be held Aug. 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Georgia Hall of the Tate Student Center. To volunteer, or for further information, contact Laura Staub at 542-6533 or hunkerdn@uga.edu.

Safe Space orientation
An orientation session for Safe Space will be held July 29 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Safe Space is a campus-wide initiative that offers a visible message of inclusion, acceptance and support to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people in the university community. The program offers participants a three-hour orientation about LGBT issues. Participants receive a resource guide and a Safe Space decal to display in their work or living space.

To register, e-mail safe@uga.edu.

International employees
All international employees must complete the UGA Tax Information Form for Internationals. This form, along with copies of the employee’s passport, I-94 card, visa and immigration document, must be submitted to Susan Caldwell in the payroll department. She will then obtain the employee’s signature on the appropriate payroll withholding forms. The Tax Information Form for Internationals is included in the online orientation for new employees. The form will also be available Aug. 9–13 at the required International Student Orientation, organized by the International Student Life Office.

An employee must have a Social Security number for payroll and personnel processing. International employees who have not yet received a Social Security number can make temporary arrangements for receiving their paychecks at the payroll office.

For information, contact Susan Caldwell at 583-8193 or susanc@uga.edu.

Intersession schedules
During the semester break Aug. 4–17, campus bus service will be reduced. All current UGA parking permits will be honored in zones E06, S10, W06 and N02. Specific lot permits remain in effect in all other zones.

The Student Learning Center will be closed Aug. 7–8.

The main and science libraries will observe reduced hours: Aug. 7, 10 a.m.–6 p.m.; Aug. 8, closed; Aug. 9–13, 8 a.m.–6 p.m.; Aug. 14, 10 a.m.–6 p.m.; Aug. 15, closed; Aug. 16–17, 8 a.m.–-6 p.m.; Aug. 18, 10 a.m.–6 p.m.

Position opening
Candidates are now being sought for the position of director of the Honors Program.

The director is responsible for operating the Honors Program, the Foundation Fellows Program, and the Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities. The director provides leadership and support in many areas, including advisement of Honors students and oversight of academic policies for these students; recruitment and preparation of undergraduates seeking prestigious national and international scholarships and fellowships; representation of the Honors Program at student recruitment and orientation programs; management of the various scholarship programs; admission of Honors students and the selection of Foundation Fellows and Ramsey Honors Scholars; working with the Honors Faculty Council on the development and coordination of curricula, programs and special opportunities for Honors students; providing research opportunities and extracurricular programming for Honors students; working with the Honors Advisory Board to expand alumni support; and actively seeking major gifts for the program. The director should be a tenured professor with demonstrated excellence in teaching and a record of scholarly achievement. The ideal candidate will possess significant administrative experience and a commitment to Honors education at UGA. The directorship is a 12-month administrative position reporting to the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs. Candidates should send a letter of interest, a curriculum vita, and the names and addresses of three references to the Honors Program Screening and Advisory Committee, Office of the Provost, Administration Building. To ensure full consideration, materials should be submitted by July 30.

Delta Prize nominations open
Faculty and staff are invited to submit nominations for the Delta Prize for Global Understanding.
The Delta Prize is awarded to individuals who by their own initiative have provided opportunities for greater understanding among cultures and nations. The prize recognizes contributions to peace and cooperation, such as grassroots projects that diminish hostilities in a particular region of the world, international programs that improve relations among different peoples, and leadership in the solution of global or regional conflict.

Nomination forms can be found at http://www.uga.edu/news/deltaprize/. The deadline for nominations is Sept. 1.

Bulletin Board is limited to announcements from campus-based organizations whose membership includes UGA faculty and/or staff.
