in the family: Gene Michaels, retired professor, establishes
$2 million trust
 |
| Half the money in the trust set
up by Gene Michaels will be used to establish an endowed
professorship in medical mycology. |
At age 75, retired UGA professor Gene Michaels
has no close living relatives. He has always considered his
“family” to be his UGA colleagues and fellow faculty
members, and the thousands of students he taught and mentored
in the university’s microbiology department.
So when he began thinking about the disposition of his estate
after he dies, the decision was easy: it would go to the institution
he has served and loved for more than half a century.
Michaels has set up a trust that eventually will yield at
least $2 million for UGA.
