UGA’s contribution to hope

UGA geography professor Kathy Parker spent last week bicycling across the country as one of the 20 cyclists on the 2004 Tour of Hope team. The team goal this year was to encourage Americans to learn more about—and support—cancer research. Team members followed a 16-week individualized training regimen developed by Chris Carmichael, Lance Armstrong’s coach, before they took off on Oct. 1. The tour ended in Washington, D.C., Oct. 9 but readers will be able to catch up at the Tour of Hope Web site. Parker’s profile is at tourofhope.org/team/2004_riders/parker.htm. On the geography department’s site viewers can read Parker’s daily journal of the tour.
