Learn to Swim program
The department of recreational sports is offering swimming
lessons to Ramsey Student Center members through Dec. 3.
Adult lessons are offered Oct. 18–Nov. 17,
Mondays and Wednesdays, 5:45–6:30 p.m., for beginners
and advanced (stroke analysis). Cost is $40 ($30 students).
A master’s workout is offered Mondays, Wednesdays and
Fridays 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. Cost is $100 ($50
students). Youth lessons (ages 5 or older) are offered Oct. 19–Nov. 18,
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:45–6:15 p.m. Three levels
of classes are available (fundamental skills, stroke development,
and stroke improvement); cost is $15 for children of students
or $20 for children of faculty and staff.
Private and semi-private lessons are also offered. Classes
are 30 minutes and lessons are scheduled around pool availability
during recreational swim hours. Private lessons are one-on-one;
semi-private swim lessons are available to groups of two to
three swimmers of similar abilities. Those interested should
register at the cashier’s window in the Ramsey Student
Center; a member of the Learn to Swim staff will contact registrants
to schedule the lesson. Cost for one private lesson is $15
($12 students) and for three lessons $40 ($30 students). A
family rate is available when family members register at the
same time for individual private lessons, with a savings of
$5 on one lesson and $10 on three. Per-person cost for semi-private
lessons is $10 ($7 students) for one lesson and $20 ($15 students)
for three.

’05–’06 play suggestions
The department of theatre and film is in the process of selecting
plays for the 2005–06 season. To encourage more interdisciplinary
participation, the department is soliciting production proposals
and ideas from faculty, staff and students throughout the
university. Proposals should include the title of the play,
its author, a short synopsis and a rationale for doing the
play at UGA. Reasons might include, but are not limited to,
an innovative concept or vision; the play’s pedagogical
value (theatrical or period style, use of language, design
problems, etc.); the chance for interdisciplinary collaboration
or exploration of a significant event (elections, war, Women’s
History Month, etc.); use of innovative or experimental media
and technology; a thematic concept for the entire season (men
vs. women, sports, oppression); appeal to a neglected audience;
application to faculty research project; and use of alternative
performance venues or collaborations with other theatres.
Send ideas to George Contini, Season Selection Committee Chair,
at gcontini@uga.edu
or Department of Theatre and Film, Fine Arts Building. E-mail
submissions are preferred.
