Vice president for research announces plans to step down

Gordhan Patel

Gordhan Patel, who has been the university’s vice president for research since 2001, announced last week that he will retire from the university in September of 2005.

Patel will have been at UGA for nearly 38 years, including 13 years as dean of the Graduate School and eight years as head of the zoology (now cellular biology) department. Since joining UGA in 1967 as an assistant professor of zoology he has never worked anywhere else.

Health Center’s executive director retires at end of year
Jacquelyn S. Kinder, executive director of the University Health Center, will retire on Dec. 24. Her 19-year leadership will be remembered for her dedication to meeting the health care needs of an ever-changing student population.

Undergraduate students engage in research through apprenticeships
Twenty-five UGA undergraduates are actively engaged in learning—outside the classroom—from faculty-guided research and connecting with each other through the Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities Apprenticeship Program.
