China withdraws student ban
The Chinese government has announced it will end its current policy of banning university students from marrying or having children. The policy has been in effect since 1980, although the Ministry of Education has been considering eliminating it since 1996. Shandong University lifted the ban on its students this past March, with the provision that students must still follow local marriage and family-planning laws. These laws state that men must be 22 and women at least 20 to be married, and must be 23 (for men) and 25 (for women) to have children.

Florida rejects chiropractic college

The Florida Board of Governors has shot down a proposal to create the first chiropractic college at a North American public university. The creation of the school at Florida State University was initially approved by the legislature, but sparked intense debate over the legitimacy of chiropractic medicine and critics’ warnings that such a school could damage the credibility of the university. Supporters of the school said it would make chiropractic school more affordable for minorities and would improve the quality of chiropractic care in Florida.
