Relay for Life participants
The UGA student chapter of the American Cancer Society invites
faculty and staff to participate in the 6th annual Relay for
Life.
The overnight event begins at 6 p.m. April 15 at
Spec Towns Track and lasts until 8 a.m. the next day.
Admission is free of charge for UGA faculty, staff and cancer
survivors.
Throughout the night, teams walk the track in shifts. A continuous
lineup of speakers, games, performances and other activities
entertains participants and spectators.
Students all across campus have joined together to form relay
teams to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. Participants
raise money by soliciting individual sponsorships or organizing
group fund raisers. Faculty and staff can form relay teams
of their own or support their students’ fund-raising
efforts.
UGA students were the first in the country to organize Relay
for Life on a college campus. Now more than 80 universities
sponsor relays, but UGA’s remains the most successful.
Last year’s total topped $216,000, making UGA the highest-earning
college relay in the nation for five consecutive years. Organizers
this year hope to raise at least $230,000.
To participate, contact the faculty-staff recruitment chair
Lisa Manglass at starry@uga.edu
or Maya J. Owens at mowens80@uga.edu.
