| UGA received a total of 20 awards
in the 2005 Council for the Advancement and Support of Education
District III advancement awards competition. Overall UGA units received
one grand award, six awards of excellence and 13 special merit wards.
The College of Education’s online news (www.coe.uga.edu/coenews)
was the recipient of a grand award and was recognized from among
23 entries submitted by college and university public relations
professionals from throughout the nine Southeastern states that
make up District III: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi,
North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
The “Archway to Excellence” 17-month campaign calendar
and college and unit campaign brochures received awards of excellence,
as did the Alumni Association’s e-Newsletter.
The university’s alumni quarterly, Georgia Magazine,
received an award of excellence, along with the photo essay “A
Diary of War” in the magazine by UGA alumna Mandi Wright,
who was on assignment in Iraq for The Detroit Free Press.
A photograph taken by broadcast/video/photography department staff
member Dot Paul during Parents and Families Weekend was also cited
in the award of excellence category.
UGA entries also received several special merit awards. The online
edition of Georgia Magazine (www.uga.edu/gm)
and a Georgia Magazine article on UGA’s “MacArthur
Genius” Eve Troutt-Powell were honored with special merit
awards.
The Alumni Association received a number of special merit awards
for various publications and electronic materials. The association’s
advertising campaign, academic calendar and electronic and print
invitations received the special merit award.
Three photographs taken by members of the broadcast/video/photography
department were recognized in the special merit category. A scene
from the Alumni Association’s Six Flags Night by Paul was
recognized, along with an image of the Arch by Nancy Evelyn. Another
photo by Evelyn, of plant details from the university experimental
gardens, also was honored in this category.
Special merit awards were made to the Office of the Vice President
for Research for its 2004 annual report and for illustrations (of
the Complex Carbohydrate Research Center and of lab rats) used in
OVPR publications.
A second recognition of the college and unit campaign brochures
was made in the special merit award category as well.
