Lecturer will discuss effect of computers
on student learning
Cynthia Selfe

Cynthia Selfe, a professor of composition and communication at Michigan Technological University, will deliver this year’s Humanities Computing Lecture for the Center for Humanities and Arts at 4 p.m. on March 8 in 265 Park Hall. The lecture is free and open to the public.

The title of Selfe’s lecture is “Challenges of Literacy and Communication in the 21st Century: A Glimpse of the Future for Educators?” She will examine the way the introduction of computers and digital communication environments have altered the manner in which students compose. A reception follows the lecture.

Selfe is author of three books, including, most recently, Technology and Literacy in the Twenty-First Century: The Perils of Not Paying Attention (1999), and co-author of seven others, including, Literate Lives in the Information Age: Stories from the United States (with Gail Hawisher, 2004) and Writing New Media: Theory and Applications for Expanding the Teaching of Composition (with Anne Wysocki, Johndan Johnson-Eilola, and Geoffrey Sirc, 2004).
