Reality check: Task force solicits feedback on draft report about undergraduate experience at UGA

Sponsored by UGA’s Teaching Academy, the symposium was attended by nearly 70 faculty, administrators and students.

A task force charged with examining the undergraduate experience at the University of Georgia got a chance to solicit feedback on its draft report from a group of faculty, administrators and students at an intensive off-campus symposium held in mid-April.

The group of nearly 70 symposium attendees spent a day and a half discussing the report and more than 30 recommendations from the task force, which was convened last fall by Provost Arnett Mace.

Top students, faculty will be recognized at Honors Day program
The university will shine the spotlight on its top student scholars, teachers, advisers and mentors at the annual Honors Day program April 27.

The program will be held this year in Hodgson Hall in UGA’s Performing Arts Center, beginning at 2 p.m. Undergraduate classes scheduled for sixth, seventh and eighth periods (1:25– 4:25 p.m.) will not meet so students and faculty can attend.

Two undergraduate students will receive Goldwater Scholarships
Two Honors students have been named 2005–06 Barry M. Goldwater Scholars.
UGA will remember deceased students, faculty, staff at ceremony
Twenty-seven students , faculty and staff who have died since last May will be remembered at a candlelight memorial ceremony on April 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel.
Governor will address undergraduates at commencement
Gov. Sonny Perdue, a graduate of the University of Georgia, will be back at his alma mater May 14 as the speaker for the university’s undergraduate commencement.
Alumni will be honored at annual awards luncheon
The UGA Alumni Association will honor the late George D. Busbee and four other people for valuable service to the university at the association’s annual awards luncheon April 29.

The association will present its Alumni Merit and Faculty Service awards, and the Friend of UGA award, at a luncheon at noon at the Athens Country Club.
