UGA projects more diverse freshman class for fall 2005
Based on commitment deposits received from admitted students, UGA is projecting another academically strong freshman class this fall, with significant increases in minority enrollment compared to last year’s class.

Arch Foundation established
“The Arch Foundation for the University of Georgia” was incorporated May 3 to serve as a cooperative organization in support of the university. The board of regents directed at its April 20 meeting that UGA sever its relationship with the current cooperative organization, the University of Georgia Foundation, and identify a replacement.
Textiles, merchandising and interiors faculty member named Georgia Power Prof
An expert in the use of enzymes as substitutes for conventional chemical processing as well as in the development of enzymes for unique treatments of fibers and fabrics has been named to the Georgia Power Company Professorship in Textile Sciences.
Degrees of success
Approximately 3,600 seniors—including 12 students who completed their degree at UGA’s Tifton campus—received their degrees on May 14.
Four finalists for vice president for research position will visit campus
Four finalists for the position of vice president for research and associate provost will visit campus in May and June to meet with university administrators and faculty, and with staff in the Office of the Vice President for Research.
Honors Program holds second public policy institute in Atlanta
UGA’s Honors Program will hold a public policy institute at the Jimmy Carter Library in Atlanta on June 10–11 to prepare participants to serve as forum moderators, able to lead discussions on local, national and international issues.
UGA delegation presents distance-learning workshops in Tunisia
A UGA delegation headed by engineering professor Takoi Hamrita and consisting of experts from the College of Education, the Georgia Center for Continuing Education and the board of regents spent a week in Tunisia to present workshops as part of an ongoing partnership between UGA and the University System of Tunisia.
