Move-in volunteers needed
“Hunker Down with Housing,” an early-move-in initiative
sponsored by University Housing to help ease congestion and
confusion, will be held Friday, Aug. 12, through Sunday,
Aug. 14.
New students and their families will be greeted by more than 200 student
and housing staff volunteers over the course of the weekend. Since all first-year
students will be living on campus, the program has expanded to three days.
UGA faculty and staff are also encouraged to volunteer. Faculty and staff may
volunteer for any time allotment on the three days of the event. Volunteers mostly
work outside, greeting new students and their families, answering questions,
giving directions to parking lots and venues around campus, and assisting in
other move-in activities.
A brief training session for volunteers will be held Aug. 11 from 6 to 8 p.m.,
in room 101 of the Student Learning Center. To volunteer, or for further information,
contact Kaily Cannizzaro (542-6533; hunkerdn@uga.edu).
Statewide staff conference
UGA will host the 2005 annual conference of the University System of Georgia
Staff Council on Oct. 13 and 14 at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education.
Staff members from institutions across the state will attend. UGA staff members
are encouraged to attend.
The registration fee of $35 includes breakfast and lunch. Many UGA departments
will fund these fees. Departments can also donate items (with or without logos)
for door prizes and registration packets.
A conference schedule, online registration and a printable PDF registration form
are available at www.gactr.uga.edu/conferences/2005/Oct/13/ssteam.phtml.
A limited number of registration scholarships are available through the UGA Staff
Council; applications must be received by Aug. 3. To apply, send name, department
and campus contact information to the Staff Council Communications Committee
by completing the form at www.uga.edu/~ugasc/suggest.html.
For more information, contact Margot.Peter@gactr.uga.edu.
