Georgia agriculture on display

Dan Fletcher (right), professor of poultry science at UGA, explains to a delegation of visiting African diplomats how the price of chicken in the U.S. has decreased since the early part of the 20th century as a result of efficient breeding and processing by poultry producers. The visitors, Washington, D.C.–based diplomats representing nine African nations as well as the minister of agriculture from Angola, toured UGA agricultural facilities for several days at the end of spring semester. They saw poultry facilities in Athens, food industry programs in Griffin, and peanut, cotton and other row-crop projects in Tifton.

The visit was sponsored by UGA’s College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences along with the Partnership to Cut Hunger and Poverty in Africa and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service. (Photo by Paul Efland)
