Bakert’s tool box was a high school graduation gift from her older sister. HGTV gave her a budget of $3,000 to redesign the bedroom.

Designer Finals
Bonnie Bakert, a senior in interior design, was one of six UGA students selected to participate in the HGTV series ‘Designer Finals’ this spring. She redesigned the bedroom of a Madison County teenager. (Photos by Dot Paul)
Madison County homeowners Tommy (center) and Pam (right) Hall waited to tape Bakert’s arrival with their daughter Melissa (left), who plans to attend UGA next year. The HGTV camera crew cued them when it was time to answer the door.
Bakert received instructions from a producer during one of her visits to the Madison County home. Her assignment was the teenager’s bedroom.
Bakert examined Melissa Hall’s bedroom before she went to work. Melissa had applied for the room makeover on HGTV’s Web site. Designer Finals premiered on HGTV (Home and Garden Television) in August 2004.
Bakert added colorful pillows to Melissa’s bedroom as part of her redesign of the room.
Bakert used new rugs, furniture, pillows, candles and drapes to add color and softness to the bedroom.
